Phytobiotics Hosts 2024 International IQ Seminar, Focusing on AI and Innovation in Animal Nutrition

Phytobiotics Futterzusatzstoffe GmbH successfully hosted its 2024 International IQ Seminar from September 23 to 26, bringing together global experts to explore the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in animal nutrition. The event featured a blend of scientific presentations and a tour of Phytobiotics' state-of-the-art production facilities in Neuendettelsau, Germany, with the scenic alpine town of Kufstein, Austria, providing the setting for the scientific seminar.

Exploring the “BrAIght Future”

This year's seminar centered around the theme "BrAIght Future," inviting participants to reconsider the innovation process in the rapidly evolving animal production industry through the lens of AI. Aidan Connolly, CEO of Agritech Capital, delivered the keynote address, “The Coming A.I. Revolution and How It Will Transform Poultry Production through Innovation & Technology.” Connolly’s talk highlighted how AI is poised to revolutionize poultry production, driving efficiency, sustainability, and profitability.
 

Day One: Innovations and Emerging Trends

The first day of the scientific program, held in the Kongress-Saal at Hotel Andreas Hofer in Kufstein, opened with welcoming remarks from Phytobiotics’ CEO Hermann Roth, Managing Director Kurt Wegleitner, and Global Director of Product Development and Innovation, Francesca Blasco. They provided an update on Phytobiotics’ latest products and innovations, underscoring the company’s ongoing commitment to advancing the field of animal nutrition.

The day included a series of thought-provoking presentations by leading experts. Dimitri Freitas, Phytobiotics’ Regional Technical Manager for LATAM, introduced the “Chicken Checker,” an innovative monitoring system designed to act as a “smoke detector” in broiler houses, aiding in the early detection of health issues. Christine Clark from the University of Sydney captivated the audience with her presentation on “Cracking the Code: Exploring Egg Shell Quality,” offering new insights into improving poultry production and welfare.

Waraporn Kraitavin and Dimitri Freitas provided updates on emerging trends from Asia and the Americas, while Professor Sergio Vieira from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul discussed the growing potential of amino acid chelated minerals in poultry nutrition.
 

Day Two: Innovation, Animal Nutrition, and Health

The second day began with a presentation by Dr. Georg Dusel from the University of Applied Sciences - TH Bingen, Germany. His talk, “Feed Intake: A Key to Performance-Appropriate Swine Nutrition,” focused on the crucial link between optimized feed intake and swine health, offering strategies to improve performance in commercial pig production.

Hermann Roth and Francesca Blasco returned with their session on “Disruptive Innovation: A Game Changer for the Animal Production Industry,” exploring how breakthrough technologies are reshaping traditional production methods, creating new efficiencies, and unlocking future possibilities.
Dr. Anna Catharina Berge from Berge Veterinary Consulting BV, Belgium, followed with her presentation on “Optimizing Calf Health and Increasing Farm Returns by Using Colostrum.” Dr. Berge emphasized the critical role colostrum plays in calf development, and how effective management can lead to healthier herds and improved farm profitability.

Rounding out the day was Carlo Sgoifo Rossi, a renowned expert from the Università degli Studi di Milano. He discussed “Efficiency: The Way for Sustainable Cattle Breeding,” offering a comprehensive look at how farmers can balance productivity with sustainability to meet growing global demand.
 

A Unique Blend of Education and Cultural Experience

Alongside the scientific sessions, attendees were treated to a tour of Phytobiotics' cutting-edge production facility, Senso Additive GmbH, in Neuendettelsau. This gave participants a firsthand look at the production processes behind Phytobiotics’ industry-leading feed additives, followed by a traditional Bavarian lunch onsite.

Additionally, attendees had the opportunity to visit Munich’s renowned Oktoberfest, adding a festive, cultural experience to the event. This optional trip allowed participants to enjoy Bavaria's rich cultural heritage while networking with peers in a relaxed setting.
