Why does egg production decrease?

One of the main reasons for culling poultry and reduced egg production is fatty degeneration of the liver. Under the influence of a large number of toxins, the nutrition of the liver cells (hepatocytes) is disturbed, which leads to fatty degeneration. Liver problems are usually caused by enteritis (inflammation of the intestines).
Enteritis develops as a result of inflammatory factors affecting the intestines: proinflammatory components of food (Omega-6, saturated fats, etc.), stress, but the main cause of the disease is toxins and conditionally pathogenic microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, parasites).
 

The importance of intestinal integrity

The intestine is a functional barrier that protects the body from pathogens. On the one hand, the intestines must ensure the absorption of nutrients, and on the other – prevent the penetration of pathogens into the body. 70% of the cells of the immune system are in the intestine, emphasizing the importance of this organ. Damaged intestinal tissues pass toxins into the bloodstream, and the body spends up to 30% of the absorbed energy and nutrients to combat the treatment of enteritis (Mercier et al., 2002).

Inflammation causes disturbances not only in the metabolism of the microorganism, but also in the digestive system. Due to the reduced sorption capacity of the intestines and increased blood flow in the damaged tissues, the level of nutrients available to bacteria increases. This leads to a dysbiotic state of the microbiota, which in turn helps to increase the production of toxins and favors the growth of specific pathogens under inflammatory conditions, for example, clostridia.
Clostridia are anaerobic bacteria that constantly live in the large intestine and help the bird digest fiber. In conditions of inflammation, the environment of the small intestine changes, and bacteria are able to migrate to the small intestine, causing the development of pathology. As a result of persistent inflammation, necrosis of the intestinal wall develops. Such areas do not perform the functions of the intestine and reduce the effectiveness of feeding.
It is necessary to protect the intestines from day one. During life, the bird is exposed to a variety of stress factors that destroy the intestinal wall, including high productivity, laying performance and microclimate deficiencies. With age, the poultry intestine becomes thin (tissue regeneration is slower than their death) and can no longer provide adequate resistance to negative factors, from which the liver suffers first and foremost.
 

How to increase egg production and extend the life of laying hens

The answer is unequivocal: it is necessary to solve the problem of inflammation of the intestines and protect the liver from overload. A product that achieves this should meet certain prerequisites: it should be an effective anti-inflammatory and hepatoprotective compound, suppress overgrowth of pathogenic microorganisms in the gut and not have a withdrawal period.
